Agartala: Tripura built its new tea auction center. The facility is finished. Warehouses and offices sit ready for business, but the doors remain locked. Buyers refuse to move until the state government approves a transport subsidy. TTDC Chairman Samir Ranjan Ghosh confirmed the standoff on Wednesday.
Ghosh says the state is reviewing the request. He remains optimistic about a quick resolution. "The office, warehouses, and other necessary facilities are ready. Buyers have requested a transport subsidy from the state government. The government is examining the proposal positively, and we hope the auction centre will become operational soon," Ghosh told reporters.
Officials are currently meeting with buyers from Assam and West Bengal to fix the plan. Tripura producers currently rely on those neighbors to sell their harvest. A shift to a local auction hub aims to change that.
New money is flowing into the state. The Destination Tripura Business Conclave starts July 9. Private firms pledged Rs 726 crore for the sector. NDR Infrastructure leads the pack with a Rs 500 crore plan for processing units and export hubs. Others like Monoworld Recycling and Itibachak Barta Foundation plan to pour millions into modernization and tourism.
This push could create 4,000 jobs. Nearly 20,000 people already work the fields. Their daily pay now sits at Rs 204. That marks a steady climb from the Rs 105 daily wage seen back in 2018.
