Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha wants a raise. He asked the Central government to hike the annual ceiling for externally aided projects from Rs 4,000 crore to Rs 10,000 crore. The current cap throttles big construction work. It stunts progress.

Saha spoke at a government event in Bardowali. He argued the current limit hurts a small state trying to build big. He already pressed Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on the issue during a North Eastern Council meeting in Shillong. He hopes for a green light.

The state has pushed hard on development lately. Saha pointed to projects like the Smart City Mission and the Lighthouse Project as proof of growth. The state recently spent Rs 137 crore to fix water bodies in Agartala and another Rs 581 crore on civic infrastructure. He noted that over the past year, the government "inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid" for projects worth roughly Rs 1,500 crore.

Investors are looking at Tripura now. The state received proposals worth Rs 15,000 crore last year. Work has already started on Rs 8,000 crore of those deals. Looking ahead, the state eyes a massive payday. Officials expect to secure MoUs worth Rs 1 lakh crore at the upcoming Destination Tripura: Business Conclave 2026. That meeting hits Hapania in July.
