Agartala: The Tripura Human Rights Commission launched a probe into a savage assault on a woman in West Tripura. Chairperson Justice Arindam Lodh ordered the state police chief to investigate the case immediately. The Commission acted after reading a local news report regarding the incident near Takarjala Police Station.

The report claims more than 72 hours passed without Officer-in-Charge Rathin Debbarma filing an FIR. Allegedly, a village hearing targeted the victim for an illicit relationship. She faced a horrific attack involving a bamboo stick. "She was allegedly subjected to brutal physical assault, during which some women reportedly inserted a bamboo stick into her private parts."

Doctors at AGMC and GBP Hospital performed major surgery on the victim. She remains in serious condition while recovering from her wounds. The report indicates she identified her attackers while in the hospital. Some TIPRA Motha Party supporters reportedly intimidated the woman's family during their visit.

Justice Lodh demanded a full report from the Director General of Police. The Commission will review the evidence during a hearing scheduled for July 27, 2026.
