Agartala: Cyber criminals snatched 83 crore from victims across Tripura over the last four years. The state police managed to freeze 15.43 crore of that total. They have returned 1.23 crore to the victims so far. Speed saves money.
DGP Anurag confirmed the numbers during a workshop on state data security in Agartala. He noted the shift from physical crimes to digital threats like phishing, ransomware, and data theft. "In Tripura itself, over the last four years, the defrauded amount has been about Rs 83 crore, of which around Rs 15.43 crore has been frozen," he said.
Tripura now uses a dedicated Cyber Crime Police Station and the State Cyber Crime Coordination Centre to hunt these criminals. The state also tracks threats through the State Computer Security Incident Response Team. Quick reporting remains the best way to secure evidence.
Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha called for better training and constant oversight. He wants the government to treat data safety as a top priority. IT Director Jeya Ragul Geshan B. added that the state recently implemented the Tripura Cyber Security Policy 2025. They updated the State Data Centre and network setup to block gaps. Officials continue to refine these plans for a national framework.
