Tripura Police Ramp Up Patrols Against Forced Puja Donations

Agartala: Tripura authorities are tightening the screws on forced Puja subscription demands. The government moved to stop groups from shaking down students, renters, and residents for cash. While the Home Department told the Tripura Legislative Assembly they have no formal reports of these forced collections, they are not taking any chances. Tipra Motha Party MLA Paul Dangshu pushed the issue in the house.

Officers at every station and outpost now have strict orders to watch for trouble. They must act fast when residents report coercion or intimidation. The brass ordered Sub-Divisional Police Officers and local commanders to keep a close eye on the streets. Officers are patrolling hotspots like schools, hostels, and rented housing units. Surveillance is up near Puja venues to stop gangs from shaking people down.

The department stated, "Officers-in-charge of all police stations and police outposts have been directed to remain vigilant and take prompt legal action against complaints involving coercion, intimidation or harassment." These stepped-up tactics aim to keep the peace during the festive season. Police intend to secure the streets for both locals and visitors.
