Agartala: Jitendra Chaudhury, Tripura’s Leader of Opposition, slammed the BJP and its ally, the Tipra Motha Party, for widespread mismanagement of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. He spoke at a meeting held by the Gana Mukti Parishad, the Left Front's tribal wing. The BJP has held power in Tripura since 2018. They governed first with the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura, now folded into the Tipra Motha.
Chaudhury claims these parties have controlled the state and the council for eight and a half years, yet tribal services are collapsing. He pointed to crumbling roads, failing water supplies, and shuttered schools. He stated, “Schools have been closed, while roads and drinking-water facilities have been affected.” The opposition leader also alleged that officials are outsourcing roles to outsiders, locking local job seekers out of work.
The government allegedly ditched the Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate requirement for certain jobs to bypass local rules. Chaudhury claims this led to over 250 illegal appointments. He accuses the Chief Executive Member and other top officials of steering jobs to their own relatives while public funds go unaudited. He demands the state cancel the entire recruitment drive. The opposition also cited a sliding law and order situation and the government’s refusal to call village council elections.

Chief Minister Manik Saha dismissed the friction between the BJP and Tipra Motha regarding seat-sharing for the upcoming village committee elections as a natural byproduct of coalition politics. Saha admitted disagreements exist but expressed confidence that a consensus will emerge soon. He stated, "Sometimes they want something and we do not. This happens. Ultimately, we will reach a decision."
Saha also dismissed criticism from CPI(M) leader M A Baby, who recently claimed the government has stalled on development. The Chief Minister challenged these claims, asserting that outsiders lack a firm grasp of the situation on the ground. He insisted that the state's progress remains visible to anyone traveling from the airport to the surrounding districts and predicted the Left's waning support will be further exposed in the next assembly elections.
