Agartala: The Tripura Left Front is calling for an immediate reversal of the state government's ban on private practice for doctors at GB Pant Hospital. Convener Manik Dey spoke to reporters in Agartala on Thursday, labeling the policy a mistake that cripples an already failing health system. He claimed the government acted alone, failing to consult doctors or stakeholders before cutting off services to residents.

Dey stated, "The state has long been grappling with a shortage of doctors, nurses and healthcare workers." The coalition argues that restricting these practitioners adds unnecessary strain to public clinics and pushes people into a corner. They want officials to sit down with medical staff to find a fix that keeps clinics open.

The opposition also attacked recent electricity rate hikes and new fixed charges. Leaders claimed the state is forcing residents to pay for administrative incompetence and a 150-crore loss left by a private firm. They demanded the government stop the rollout of smart meters immediately.

The Left Front shifted focus to a suspicious death at Tripura Santiniketan Medical College. They want a Special Investigation Team to determine if it was murder. Finally, the group slammed the government for the poor state of national highways in Khowai District and the forced eviction of Agartala street vendors without a relocation plan.
