Agartala: Tripura secured Rs 1,040 crore under the newly minted Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission. State Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy announced the funding on July 2. The money covers the final nine months of this fiscal year.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan kicked off the national program from Andhra Pradesh. Roy joined the event through a video link in Agartala. He argued the new scheme beats the old MGNREGA setup by widening the range of work allowed in villages.

The program prioritizes land leveling, flood protection, water conservation, and building earthen drains. Roy shut down rumors that the BJP government plans to kill off the older MGNREGA work program. Instead, he claimed this new push offers better support for rural laborers.

The state saw funding hit Rs 1,100 crore over the entire previous year. This new batch of cash marks a hefty jump for a small state. Payday is looking better for the workforce, too. Roy noted the government hiked the daily wage from Rs 240 to Rs 300. He said this revision "would strengthen livelihood opportunities in rural Tripura."
