Agartala: Tripura Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman recently called on students to follow the ideals of Kazi Nazrul Islam to help build a stronger and more progressive nation. Speaking at a special tribute program held at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala, the minister described the iconic writer as a symbol of human unity, revolution, and awakening.
The event, organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, marked the birth anniversary of the figure widely known as India's Rebel Poet. Barman emphasized that Nazrul was a multi-faceted talent whose legacy as a playwright, musician, philosopher, and novelist continues to reach new generations. He added that the poet's commitment to fighting injustice, superstition, and inequality remains deeply relevant in modern society.
Former Tripura University Vice-Chancellor and Padma Shri awardee Arunoday Saha also attended the event to celebrate the poet's contributions to Bengali literature. Saha noted that Nazrul stays alive in the public consciousness through his extensive body of work. He pointed to the artist's versatility, noting that his compositions, which range from soulful ghazals to devotional Shyama Sangeet, continue to resonate with audiences today. During his address, Barman praised the poet's enduring patriotism, noting that he championed humanity and social harmony even while facing significant personal hardship.
