Agartala: Agartala gets a new hospital next month. Health Secretary Kiran Gitte announced the facility near Jackson Gate will start operations soon. The state aims to fix medical shortages and boost service capacity.

Chief Minister Manik Saha also laid the foundation for the Sepahijala District Hospital. That project covers 14 acres and costs 46 crore rupees. The state is currently upgrading sub-divisional hospitals in Jirania, Mohanpur, and Jampuijala to keep up with demand. Workers are also readying a new district hospital in Dharmanagar.

Manpower remains a priority. Officials hired 214 doctors, and 160 are already working. Another 40 recruits are coming from a waiting list. Gitte noted that better local care pays off. He said, "Referrals of patients from Tripura to hospitals outside the state have dropped by nearly 80 per cent."

The state wants to cut wait times by running the new Agartala hospital in two shifts. Officials may use this system at GBP and IGM hospitals too. To solve the lack of radiologists at major medical centers, the department plans to start tele-radiology services. Meanwhile, the National Health Mission is pushing to wipe out tuberculosis through better tracking and faster treatment.
