Agartala: Tripura Congress leaders are sounding the alarm on the Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls. They claim state election authorities are keeping them in the dark about how the process works. Party spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty called the situation very important at a press conference on July 8. He demanded the State Election Officer provide more transparency for the voter verification.

The trouble started after the state Congress president sent a formal letter to the Election Commission of India. They never got a response. Chakraborty said the party received no acknowledgement for their inquiry. The Election Commission issued a notification on May 14 ordering Booth Level Officers to go door-to-door. This effort aims to clean up the electoral rolls, find foreign voters, and dump illegal entries. "We want a proper voter list across the country and in Tripura. The sanctity of elections must be protected," Chakraborty said.

Congress leaders also hit out at the ruling BJP. They allege the party is meddling in the process to save their reputation after losing ground with voters. During a recent all-party meeting, officials claimed the real work would not start until September. Chakraborty is not buying it. He pointed to different timelines in other states like Karnataka and demanded to know why Tripura is different. "If the Election Commission has one set of rules, why is the process being kept unclear in Tripura?" he asked. The party plans to force a meeting with the State Election Officer to clear the air.
