Agartala: Chief Minister Manik Saha ordered officials on Wednesday to fix Tripura's water supply issues. He demanded a mission mode approach for a long-term strategy that covers the entire state. The current setup leans too hard on Agartala's groundwater. That will not work for long. Population spikes and dry seasons require a new path.
Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Good Governance Department, laid out the current supply failures at a meeting in the TIFT War Room. The plan calls for tapping the Gomati River near the Maharani Barrage in Udaipur. Engineers will build pipelines, treatment plants, and reservoirs to store water for the dry months. Saha also wants better rainwater harvesting to capture runoff during the monsoons.
Saha pushed his team to look past simple city fixes. "Planning should not be limited only to Agartala. We need to prepare a long-term strategy for the entire state, keeping future generations in mind," he stated. He insisted that clear goals and hard work can turn these plans into a reality.
The meeting brought together key leaders including Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy and Assembly Speaker Rampada Jamatia. Officials discussed the technical shift to surface water to ensure steady supplies. They aim to stop wasting unused water resources. Proper execution remains the only way forward for the state's infrastructure.
