Agartala: Tripura social pension payments hit a wall. Beneficiaries across the state have waited months for their cash, sparking frustration and uncertainty. Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy blames the holdup on a messy transition to the new SNA-SPARSH system.

The state adopted this tech to force real-time fund transfers between federal and state accounts. It kills the old habit of parking money in intermediary spots to boost financial transparency. The switch is proving difficult. Officials are scrambling to streamline bank accounts and wipe out persistent technical bugs.

Roy defended the government's struggle during the rollout. "Earlier, the state used to receive the Centre's contribution several months in advance. Under the new arrangement, fund transfers take place in real time, and some technical issues have emerged during the transition," he said. Regular payouts should return next month.

The minister shot down calls to hike the current Rs 2,000 monthly pension. Tripura carries most of the heavy lifting. The state pays Rs 1,800 of that total while the Centre chips in a meager Rs 200. Roy insists the state lacks the deep pockets of wealthier regions but will keep providing whatever support it can afford.
