Guwahati: Topcem Cement cleared the streets of Guwahati on Wednesday. The company ran its annual Old Sri Biswakarma Idol Biswarjan Avijan to clean up after festival celebrations. They have managed this drive every year since 2012.
Workers collected more than 1,000 idols from various neighborhoods throughout the 2024 operation. These statues represent Lord Biswakarma, the divine architect worshipped by factories, workshops, and commercial outfits for safety and success.
Dr. Anil Kapur, the Senior President of Sales and Marketing for Meghalaya Cements Ltd., started the event on September 18. He pushed for local residents and businesses to take responsibility for public spaces. "Cleanliness is vital to our daily lives, and initiatives such as this demonstrate how collective participation can contribute to a cleaner and healthier city," Kapur said.
The company plans to keep the project running. They want more community members to join the effort in coming years. The goal remains simple. They want a cleaner, more sustainable Guwahati.
