Taj Resorts to Start Construction at Umiam After Monsoon Season

Shillong: Construction on the Taj Resorts and Spa project at Umiam kicks off once the rains stop. Partners are already prepping the site. The Meghalaya Tourist Development Corporation turned over the Orchid Resort land last year to clear the way for this high-end development.

The current blueprint includes 150 luxury villas and a standalone reception building. Designers have finished the plans. Work will speed up after the monsoon season concludes. The full project timeline spans three years.

Public outcry forced a major change. Locals and stakeholders fought to save Lumpongdeng Island from development. The project managers listened. Sources confirmed that the "idea of constructing any infrastructure on Lumpongdeng Island has been completely dropped and the island will not be touched at all." This scenic island in the middle of Umiam Lake stays as is.
