Gangtok: Sikkim is mapping its future. Officials gathered at Chintan Bhawan on September 10 to shape the Sikkim Vision @2047 document. The two-day session at the Mini Conference Hall brings together top bureaucrats to set long-term growth priorities. The Planning and Development Department and the Executive Council for Sikkim Vision @2047 hosted the event.
Professor Mahendra P Lama chaired the meeting. He serves as Chief Economic Advisor to the Chief Minister. Other attendees included Dr. Neeraj Adhikari, James Saring Lepcha, M T Sherpa, and Tushar Nikhare. They need a solid plan. During the opening, Professor Lama pushed for better teamwork. He stated, "coordinated planning would be crucial to translate sectoral priorities into a comprehensive development strategy for the state."
Day one featured 21 departments pitching their goals. They covered SWOT analyses, workforce policies, and budget needs. Presentations came from sectors including Health and Family Welfare, School Education, Rural Development, and Agriculture. Others included Fisheries, Forest, Urban Development, and the Home and Protocol department.
The council wants a fresh approach. They are pushing for tech innovation, skill development, and diverse funding. Officials also plan to benchmark Sikkim against other Himalayan regions. They want to avoid overlapping policies and stop wasted effort. The second day, September 11, will wrap up remaining presentations to finish the draft.
