Gangtok: The government of Sikkim officially implemented an odd-even vehicle restriction system across the state on Monday, May 18. This policy was enacted in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal for citizens to exercise judicious fuel usage in light of escalating energy concerns stemming from the ongoing crisis in West Asia. The initiative aims to significantly reduce state-wide fuel consumption while maintaining mobility for residents.

To mitigate potential transit challenges for the public, the State Transport Department has proactively strengthened public transportation services. In Gangtok, the City Runner bus service will now maintain a 30-minute frequency between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. on the Ranipool to Secretariat route. Furthermore, officials confirmed that all Sikkim Nationalised Transport buses across the six districts will continue their operations as scheduled, with weekend services remaining fully functional to ensure consistency.
