Gangtok: The Sikkim High Court has accepted a Public Interest Litigation filed by the Sikkimese Moolniwasi Suraksha Sangh regarding the state's ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The court has scheduled the next hearing for June 11, 2026.

While the organization is not seeking to halt the revision process, it is calling for a stricter approach. The group specifically demands a reassessment of the cut-off year used to determine voter eligibility. They argue that this adjustment is essential to preserve the interests of the state under Article 371F of the Indian Constitution, which provides special protections to Sikkim.

Chief Electoral Officer Raj Kumar Yadav initiated the current revision on May 30, 2026, acting on directives from the Election Commission of India. Booth Level Officers are presently visiting homes throughout the state to process enumeration forms. For local indigenous communities, the outcome of this legal challenge is seen as a vital step in safeguarding the state's demographic and political identity.
