Sikkim Election Officials Warn of Mass Voter List Purge

Gangtok: Sikkim election officials plan to strip over 21,928 names from the voter list. The Special Intensive Revision enters its final stretch. Chief Electoral Officer Raj Yadav issued the warning on Monday as the June 28 deadline looms.

Booth Level Officers have finished most of the work. They distributed 99.68 per cent of Enumeration Forms across the state. However, they only verified and digitized 84.14 per cent of them. Thousands remain missing from the digital record.

The Election Department flagged the issue as a high-alert situation. Most unverified forms belong to people who died, moved away, or disappeared. Urban areas like Gangtok, Arithang, and West Pendam show the worst progress. Officers used door-to-door visits and phone calls to track people down, but many remain untraceable.

Yadav urged local leaders and citizens to help find these missing electors. He warned that any name not verified by the cutoff will stay off the Draft Electoral Roll. Officials want all forms submitted by June 25 to give crews enough time to finish their work.

"Every eligible voter must ensure that their Enumeration Form is submitted and verified before the deadline. Otherwise, their name may not appear in the Draft Electoral Roll," Yadav said. The state will publish the draft list on July 5.
