Gangtok: The Election Commission of Sikkim has officially commenced the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, an initiative designed to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the state electoral rolls. The exercise, which utilizes 2002 as the primary cut-off year for eligibility reference, aims to verify all existing entries and incorporate eligible new voters into the system. According to official documents, the final electoral roll is scheduled for public release on September 6, 2026.
Preparatory activities, including staff training and material printing, have been underway since May 20. The core verification phase features house-to-house visits by Booth Level Officers (BLOs), which are set to take place from May 30 through June 28. To facilitate the process, BLOs will distribute partially pre-filled Enumeration Forms to residents. Officials have implemented a strict protocol requiring BLOs to conduct at least three visits to each household. In instances where residences remain locked, officers are instructed to leave notification slips and place stickers on doors to ensure follow-up.
The guidelines explicitly prohibit the distribution of bulk forms to third parties, ensuring that each voter is personally accounted for. To assist the most vulnerable members of the community, the Commission plans to deploy volunteers to help the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and those who are unwell. While the 2002 electoral roll serves as a baseline for citizenship presumption, those whose details show discrepancies may be asked to present supplementary government documentation for verification purposes.
