Shillong: Shillong Traffic Police ticketed 26 drivers over the weekend. Officers hit the Mawpdang-Ummir Junction on the Shillong Bypass to haul in violators. They collected 19,500 rupees in fines during the sweep. The operation, dubbed Operation Safer Shillong, focused on speeding teens, riders without helmets, and illegal vehicle mods.
Authorities teamed up with the Dorbar Shnong of Mawpdang, the Special Operations Team, and local cops from Diengpasoh and Rynjah stations. SP for Traffic Hari Prasanth said the goal is stopping wrecks before they start. He noted that young riders often ignore basic safety laws, leading to dangerous road conditions.
"Speed thrills for a moment, but regret can last a lifetime," Prasanth said. He wants motorists to take road safety seriously. The department reminded locals that compliance keeps everyone alive. They are pushing for better habits behind the wheel to cut down on crashes.
