Senior BJP Leader Alexander Laloo Hek Receives Honorary Doctorate

Shillong: Former cabinet minister and senior BJP leader Alexander Laloo Hek received an honorary doctorate from the Delhi-based Integrated Global University on Friday. The university awarded the degree to recognize his commitment to social work and his decades of service in public office.

Hek is a six-time MLA representing the Pynthorumkhrah constituency. During his acceptance speech, he shared his journey into politics, noting that he entered the field without family connections or financial backing. He began his career with the Youth Democratic Front, the political wing of the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People, which he helped establish as its first state general secretary.

The politician joined the BJP in 1995 and secured his first victory as a party candidate in 1998, which led to his initial appointment as a minister. Over the following years, he held various ministerial roles within the government.

His career is marked by several notable milestones, including recognition from the World Health Organization in 2021 for his efforts as Health Minister during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has also been associated with the Lord Gautam Buddha International Peace Award. Integrated Global University regularly hosts international convocations in locations like Kathmandu and Dubai to celebrate excellence in fields such as entrepreneurship, education, and social service.
