Security Forces Escalate Operations in Manipur Districts After Surge in Violence

Imphal: Combined security forces have launched coordinated operations across the Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Thoubal districts following a recent wave of violence and armed confrontations. Director General of Police Mukesh Singh is personally supervising these efforts, which include large-scale cordon-and-search missions, the establishment of new checkpoints, and intensive area domination exercises.

During a major operation in Kangpokpi’s Konsakhul village on Wednesday morning, more than 150 security personnel arrived in over 60 vehicles to conduct a sweep. Authorities detained three village volunteers, identified as Chalanwangbo Thiumai, Hopeson Abonmai, and Namroungwi Chawang, for questioning. Security teams also reported the recovery of various arms and ammunition during their recent search activities throughout the affected regions.

In a separate event in the Henglep Sub-Division of Churachandpur, a resident named Lenminsang was killed during a security operation. Henglep MLA Letzamang Haokip condemned the death, which occurred in North Songkong village. In an official statement, the legislator noted, "The death of a civilian in such circumstances raises serious concerns and undermines public confidence in the security apparatus." Official reports regarding the specific circumstances of this fatality remain pending.
