Security Forces Arrest Five Insurgents and Seize Weapons Cache in Manipur

Imphal: Security forces have arrested five active militants and seized a significant cache of weapons during a series of counter-insurgency operations across Manipur. The arrests took place over two days in the Chandel and Imphal East districts as part of an intensified effort to curb militant activity.

On June 2, security personnel apprehended four cadres near Khangtung village in the Chandel district. The individuals were identified as 24-year-old Mayanglambam Gandhi Singh of the KCP, 25-year-old Langpoklakpam Sushil Singh and 20-year-old Kangjam Naresh Meitei of the PREPAK, and 26-year-old Laitonjam Kanheiya Singh of the KYKL.

A fifth suspect, 23-year-old Thangjam Nganba Meetei, was arrested on June 3 in Sawombung Khunjao, Imphal East. Authorities seized a four-wheeler and several incriminating items from the suspect during the operation near the local primary health centre.

In a separate action on June 3, security forces discovered an arms cache inside a hut in the Irilbung area of Imphal East. The recovered items included two AK rifles, one SLR rifle, one 9 mm carbine, four hand grenades, and 42 rounds of ammunition of various calibres. Security agencies are continuing their investigation into the incidents to maintain order in the state.
