Itanagar: Rescue teams are scouring Keyi Panyor district for four missing people after flash floods hammered the area. An Indian Air Force helicopter, police, and disaster response crews joined the hunt on Thursday. The weather is brutal. Landslides and thick sludge blocked vital roads, isolating victims and slowing relief efforts.
The disaster struck the NEEPCO Colony in Poosa on Wednesday morning. Walls crumbled and eighteen homes took a beating from the mud and water. One 35-year-old woman died in the surge, and 17 others suffered injuries. Crews are now fighting to clear debris and reopen access to the cut-off regions.
Heavy rain snapped links to six districts, including Lower Subansiri and Kra Daadi. Travel on National Highway-13 remains stalled by massive landslides. The Border Roads Organisation is working from the Kimin side, while excavators dig through the sludge toward Potin.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu promised state aid for those hit by the storm. He confirmed that officials are watching the situation as it develops. "All concerned agencies have been mobilised for rescue and relief operations," Khandu said. Local officials warned residents to stay off dangerous routes until the roads are clear.
