Search for missing student ends in tragedy as body recovered in Churachandpur

Imphal: Search teams have recovered the body of a Class VIII student from the Tuitha, or Khuga, River in Churachandpur after a massive three-day operation. The girl, a student at Radhakrishnan Foundation School in Tuibong, went missing on Thursday when flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall swept her away while she was walking home.

Recovery efforts centered on the Khengjang power substation area, where the student's body was discovered trapped in mud. Local authorities, civil organizations, and the State Disaster Response Force worked together to locate her. Following a request from the Tuibong Sub-Divisional Officer and approval from the Churachandpur Deputy Commissioner, an SDRF team traveled from Imphal to assist.

Led by Havildar Riyajuddin, the rescue unit arrived on Friday and focused their efforts on the area near Zero Point, the location where the girl was last observed. The team utilized inflatable boats and specialized equipment to navigate the river. According to reports, the student was "swept away by flash flood currents triggered by incessant rainfall while returning home from school." Local officials are currently coordinating with the victim's family as they finalize the details of the recovery.
