Itanagar: Rescue crews suspended the hunt for four people missing after a flash flood tore through Arunachal Pradesh’s Keyi Panyor district. The search will restart at first light on Friday. State Disaster Management Secretary Dani Sulu said teams scoured the NEEPCO Colony at Poosa all day Thursday but found no trace of the missing.

Heavy rain triggered the deluge Wednesday morning. The water smashed homes, snapped roads, and sent landslides sliding across the region. A 35-year-old woman died in the chaos, and 17 others suffered injuries. Roughly 18 homes were ruined.

The Indian Air Force flew a chopper into the disaster zone to drop SDRF and police reinforcements. That same aircraft pulled stranded tourists and patients from the mud. Locals, ex-servicemen, and police joined the effort on the ground.

The rain and slides effectively cut off six districts from the rest of the state. NH-13 remains shut near the Itanagar-Hoj-Yazali stretch. Excavators are fighting to clear boulders near Potin, while BRO teams work from the Kimin side. Officials managed to clear major blockades near Pitapool and Possa Bridge.

Governor K T Parnaik expressed sorrow over the death and directed officials to stay on high alert. Chief Minister Pema Khandu promised state aid to the victims. Khandu noted, "All agencies are engaged in rescue, relief and restoration work."
