Kohima: The State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute recently hosted a three-day training session for 30 agricultural officials and ATMA functionaries. Held from May 13 to 15, the program focused on the practical use and management of modern farm machinery to improve agricultural efficiency.
SAMETI director Bodevi Shuya opened the event by emphasizing the need for accessible technology for small and marginal farmers. He noted that strengthening custom hiring centers allows these farmers to utilize expensive equipment at a lower cost. Experts from Nagaland University and the Department of Agriculture provided instruction on internal combustion engines and mechanization specifically tailored for hill farming.
The training included hands-on demonstrations at the Nagaland University campus in Medziphema. Participants gained experience with tillage, sowing, and intercultural equipment. Specialized training covered the safe operation of tractors, power tillers, and brush cutters. Additionally, instructors showcased a banana fiber extraction machine to highlight diverse technological applications in the field.
Pikato V. Jimo from the Department of Agriculture provided context on current state-run mechanization initiatives. The event concluded with a ceremony where trainees received certificates for their participation, marking the end of the intensive workshop.
