Guwahati: The Sümi Naga community gathers July 8 at the historic Longtong Sema village in Tinsukia, Assam. They are holding the Tuluni festival. It is the group's most sacred agricultural event. The All Assam Sema Naga Council organizes the day to celebrate abundance and fellowship.
Participants will don traditional handwoven garments in maroon, black, and white. They will also wear intricate beads and warrior headgear. These items show off their deep-rooted heritage. Community elders note the festival historically carries the name Anni. It falls between the end of sowing and the start of harvest.
The event serves as more than just a nod to farming. It acts as a time for fixing old grudges and strengthening social bonds. Elders hope the day brings the people together. One leader stated, "The celebrations are aimed at promoting and preserving the cultural identity of the Sümi Naga community while encouraging younger generations to remain connected with their traditional heritage."
The program includes folk songs, rituals, and dances. It runs for one day. Organizers expect people from across the region to show up. They want to reinforce values of unity and communal harmony.
