Agartala: Rising waters are eating away at the banks in Melaghar. Local families watch their land disappear into the river day by day. Panic is setting in. The ground beneath their feet is literally washing away.
Residents live in constant fear. They don't know if their homes will still stand by morning. Many people who rely on the river for work have lost their way to earn a living. The situation remains dire as the earth gives way under the pressure of the current.
"Erosion leaves people living in river banks anxious in Melaghar," report locals caught in the path of the destruction. There is no relief in sight for those watching their property sink into the silt.
