RIMS Nurses Association Condemns Violence and Security Presence at Hospital

Imphal: The RIMS Nurses Association (RNA) has formally condemned a violent incident that occurred within the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences complex. RNA Executive Member Salam Roma Devi stated that the facility must remain a sanctuary for medical treatment and patient recovery rather than a site for conflict.

The trouble began when a mob gathered on hospital grounds, prompting security forces to deploy stun bombs and mock bombs to disperse the crowd. The association warned that these aggressive tactics caused widespread panic, which proved particularly dangerous for critically ill patients requiring a stable environment for their treatment.

The RNA expressed deep concern regarding the current state of the institution, noting that a massive deployment of armed security personnel has transformed the hospital environment. Salam Roma Devi characterized the current state of the facility as a “war-like atmosphere” that undermines the safety of those inside.

This shift in the environment has left many nurses and hospital staff feeling apprehensive about reporting to work. The association warned that if these conditions persist, the quality and continuity of medical services will suffer. RNA representatives have called on authorities to restore order and ensure the hospital remains a neutral, peaceful space for healthcare workers to perform their duties safely.
