Kohima: The Rengma Hoho issued an urgent appeal on August 2 to stop the spread of inflammatory language within the Naga community. The group slammed the use of derogatory slurs like duplicate Nagas and kutcha Nagas. These terms frequently appear on media and digital platforms.
People in Nagaland are using these words to insult Nagas living across the border. Rengma Hoho president Gwasinlo Thong stated the group was "pained to observe" these insults becoming common practice. Such language only serves to hurt the sentiments of brothers and sisters.
The organization insists that the identity of being Naga belongs to everyone. It is not the property of any specific country, state, tribe, clan, or village. The group maintains that the term is an inherent intellectual property right of every individual regardless of their location. The Rengma Hoho urged all Nagas to stop belittling others and start building a sense of universal brotherhood instead.
