Guwahati: The Ministry of Railways is moving to establish a Railway Recruitment Board examination centre in Kokrajhar. This decision follows a formal request from Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Boro, who pushed for the change in May to help students living in the Bodoland Territorial Region. Currently, job seekers must travel to Guwahati or Tezpur to take exams.
Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar confirmed the move in a note to Boro. He directed RRB Guwahati to start the hunt for potential venues. An Examination Conducting Agency is already busy auditing local sites. The board will vet these spots against strict rules regarding security, tech infrastructure, and physical access. They plan to greenlight locations that clear every bar.
"The identified venues will be considered for inclusion as examination centres for future RRB examinations," the Railway Board stated. This move aims to cut travel costs and stress for thousands of local aspirants. Boro credited the shift to the hard work of the UPPL-led government. He thanked Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for the approval. He called the decision a win for the youth of the region.
