Political Rivalries Threaten Traditional Governance in Hima Khyrim

Shillong: Partisan politics are tearing through Hima Khyrim. Local political divisions now plague traditional village governance, forcing leaders to scramble to keep the peace. Syiem Balajied Sing Syiem confirmed this grim reality on Monday while attending the Shad Nongkrem celebrations at Smit.

These deep-seated allegiances hamper the administration. They complicate dispute resolution and strain ties between neighbors. The Syiem spends significant time settling these disputes to protect individual rights. He admitted, "Political differences within villages under Hima Khyrim are increasingly complicating traditional governance."

The Hima administration carries a heavy burden. Officials work to ensure partisan fights do not wreck local harmony. The process remains slow, but the leadership refuses to fold. They are seeking divine guidance to heal the rift and serve the public interest. As the community prays for better harvests and unity during the Shad Nongkrem, the Syiem hopes these rituals will eventually bring long-term prosperity to the region.
