Aizawl: Mizoram authorities seized a large haul of morphine and heroin worth more than Rs 6.7 crore in Saitual district on May 31. The operation led to the arrest of three individuals from Assam who were traveling in a truck from Manipur toward Aizawl.

Acting on a tip, the Saitual District Executive Force intercepted the vehicle and conducted a search of the cabin. Officers discovered 13 packets of morphine, weighing over 6.6 kilograms, hidden in a secret compartment near the driver's seat. The market value of the morphine alone is estimated at Rs 6.7 crore.

Police also recovered 12 grams of heroin from the truck, valued at approximately Rs 2.4 lakh. While the identities of the three arrested men remain undisclosed, officials have launched a formal investigation into the matter.

Investigators are now working to determine the origin of the drugs and their intended destination. They are also examining whether the suspects are linked to broader drug trafficking networks operating within the region.
