Agartala: Tripura police intercepted a massive haul of banned cough syrup late Thursday. Officers pulled 39,345 bottles of Eskuf and Fairdyl off the Deoghar Express at Agartala Railway Station. The illicit cargo holds a street value of 2.5 crore rupees.

Traffickers hid the loot inside 81 sealed metal drums to bypass security. A joint team from the Government Railway Police, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force, and the Special Branch executed the raid after receiving intelligence reports.

Inspector General Krishnendu Chakravertty said the bust marks another hit in the state crackdown on narcotics. "Wherever we receive information, we act promptly and are leaving no stone unturned," Chakravertty said. He noted that smugglers frequently use the railway network to move small loads.

Investigators are now tracing the source and the intended destination of the syrup. Legal action is underway against those responsible for the shipment. Police continue to hunt for the smugglers behind the operation.
