Agartala: Police pulled the body of a 12-day-old girl from a well in North Gopalpur village early Saturday. The infant, Sushmita Das, vanished from her home before dawn. Patharkandi residents are rattled. The tragedy has triggered a massive investigation.

Arun Das, the child's father, told authorities his wife woke up to a stranger in their room. The unidentified woman allegedly claimed the baby as her own before tossing the infant into the nearby well. Bazarichhara Police Station officers, led by Officer-in-Charge Khanindra Nath, recovered the girl following the family's report.

Senior district and subdivision police arrived at the scene to oversee the investigation. Officers sent the body to the district hospital for a post-mortem examination. Authorities are keeping all possibilities open. They are investigating potential foul play and debunking false narratives.

The grieving mother hinted at supernatural causes. Police have remained quiet on those claims. Officials stated that the "exact cause of death and the chain of events will only be clarified once the autopsy report and investigation findings are available." The community is demanding justice while waiting for answers.
