Police Probe 87-Year-Old Woman's Death in Digboi Following Abuse Allegations

Guwahati: Police are investigating the death of an 87-year-old woman in Digboi, Assam, after neighbors accused her family of years of abuse. The woman died at her home near the Hindu Milan Mandir on Friday. Neighbors claim her son, Kanu Ranjan Dey, assaulted her shortly before she passed away.

The local community reported seeing visible injury marks on the victim’s face. They allege the woman suffered through years of intimidation, neglect, and physical beatings. Residents are now demanding a full investigation and legal action against those responsible.

Officers from the Digboi Police Station arrived at the scene to collect evidence. They sent the body for a post-mortem to determine how she died. Authorities are currently weighing multiple possibilities, including medical issues or foul play. Investigators said the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received.

Police have not yet confirmed if the injuries caused her death. No arrests have been made as the inquiry continues.
