Agartala: Tripura Police picked up eight Bangladeshi nationals near Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport on Saturday. The men were allegedly trying to skip town after slipping across the border illegally. Authorities caught the first four after a tip hit the Airport Police Station. They were trying to fly out of the state.
Questioning the first group led officers straight to four more men hiding nearby. All eight are male. They now sit in police custody while investigators piece together their path into India. Police are hunting for the people who helped them cross the line.
The investigation has widened. Officials want to know if these men were part of a larger human trafficking ring. The local court is handling the case. A police official stated, "Investigators are examining their complete travel plan, the route through which they allegedly entered India and whether an organised network facilitated their infiltration and onward movement."
