Imphal: Manipur Police defused two hand grenades discovered at the residence of former minister Bijoy Koijam on Thursday morning. The devices sat near the gate of his home in Imphal West district. Someone spotted the explosives at 6:00 AM.

Bomb disposal experts cleared the scene. No group claimed the attack yet. Police registered a case and started searching for the culprits. This is the third time someone left bombs at this address since 2011. Previous incidents occurred in late 2011 and again in February of this year.

The recurring danger sparked anger across Imphal. The Students' Welfare Committee and local residents staged sit-in protests to demand an end to the intimidation. They gathered to condemn the placement of lethal weapons in a crowded neighborhood.

Protesters highlighted the danger to families living nearby. The group issued a clear message to those behind the threats: "Organising bodies urged those responsible to resolve any grievances or misunderstandings through peaceful negotiation rather than violent intimidation."
