Police Bust Counterfeit Currency Ring in Tripura

Agartala: Police in Tripura dismantled a suspected counterfeit currency racket on Wednesday morning following the arrest of 42-year-old Kartik Debnath. Authorities detained the West Sonatala resident at approximately 6 a.m. near the Bagan Bazar area in Kalyanpur. Initial searches of the suspect yielded fake Indian currency notes with a face value of Rs 7,600.

Officers from the Khowai Police Station and the Subhash Park Out Post subsequently conducted a follow-up raid at Debnath's residence. During this operation, officials recovered an additional Rs 13,400 in counterfeit notes, bringing the total seizure to Rs 21,000. Investigators also discovered 57 tablets suspected to be narcotics at the home.

The suspect was taken into custody for processing at the Kalyanpur Police Station. Law enforcement officials have launched a formal investigation to determine the origin of the fake currency and the illegal substances. Legal proceedings against the suspect are currently underway.
