Agartala: Authorities in Tripura arrested a man named Kartik Debnath on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in circulating counterfeit Indian currency. Police and intelligence officers detained the suspect in the Baganbazar area near the Kalyanpur police station following tips about his illegal activities.

Officers initially recovered fake notes totaling Rs 13,400 during the primary search. A follow-up raid at Debnath’s home in Mahadebtilla, located within the Khowai police station jurisdiction, led to the discovery of additional counterfeit bills. Krishnadhan Sarkar, the officer-in-charge at Khowai, confirmed that the total value of the seized notes exceeded Rs 20,000.

During the search of the suspect's residence, which was overseen by an Executive Magistrate, police also discovered various contraband items. Officials are currently interrogating Debnath to identify the source of the currency and determine if he is linked to a broader criminal organization. The case has raised concerns among local residents due to the region's proximity to the border with Bangladesh, and active investigations remain ongoing.
