Police Arrest Alleged Counterfeit Trafficker in Assam

Guwahati: Sipajhar Police arrested an alleged fake currency trafficker and seized counterfeit notes totaling Rs 1.2 lakh. Acting on specific intelligence, officers apprehended the suspect, identified as Afazuddin Ahmed, during a targeted operation.

Authorities registered a case against Ahmed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, specifically citing sections 96/26, 178, 179, 316(2), and 318(4). The accused appeared in court and is now being held in judicial custody.

Police are currently working to determine where the currency originated and whether other individuals are involved in the illicit trade. Officials stated, "Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the counterfeit currency and identify any larger network involved in the illegal operation." This arrest marks a significant step in the department's ongoing efforts to prevent financial crimes within the region.
