Phek district leaders convene for Khet Bachao Abhiyan capacity building

Kohima: The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Phek hosted a Sarpanch Sammelan on June 13 to advance the Khet Bachao Abhiyan campaign. The event brought together village council chairmen, elders, and community leaders from seven villages to focus on safeguarding agricultural lands and improving regional crop productivity.

Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Phek, outlined the core objectives of the initiative. He stated, "The objectives and importance of the ongoing campaign Khet Bachao Abhiyan," include soil testing, balanced nutrient management, and the promotion of natural farming. He also stressed the importance of utilizing Thu-thu cattle for sustainable systems and protecting fields from environmental threats.

Superintendent of Police Dr. Pritpal Kaur, who served as the special guest, encouraged leaders to adopt climate-resilient practices. She highlighted the role of organic farming, digital technology, and agro-ecotourism as essential tools for boosting rural employment and farm income across the district.

Technical sessions featured expert presentations on natural farming techniques, integrated agricultural systems, and organic nutrient management. The program concluded with local stakeholders committing to collective action for resource conservation, ensuring that village institutions remain active in mobilizing farmers to adopt improved technologies for long-term food security.
