Kohima: A joint enforcement squad hit shops near schools in Chozuba town on September 8, 2026. The National Tobacco Control Programme led the operation alongside the district administration, police, and local civic groups. Dr. Cthitu Nienu, the EAC of Chozuba, spearheaded the team.
Officers caught 20 shops breaking the law. They penalized every offending business under Section 6(b) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, or COTPA 2003. This specific rule prohibits the sale of tobacco products to or by minors. The squad included Dobashis and members from CTC, CTWWS, CTCSU, and CTYS. "NTCP Phek conducts enforcement drive," the DIPR stated.
