Pughoboto Authorities Seize Tobacco Near Schools

Kohima: EAC Akumlong Amer led a raid on tobacco vendors in Pughoboto town on October 8. Joined by police and Dobashis, the team enforced the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act of 2003. They moved fast. Inspections centered on shops operating in the immediate vicinity of local schools.

Authorities identified businesses selling products within 500 metres of educational facilities. This directly violated Section 6(b) of the COTPA Act. Officers seized all contraband tobacco found on the premises. They destroyed the inventory on site. The team issued firm warnings to the shopkeepers involved, telling them they were "strictly cautioned against selling tobacco products near educational institutions in violation of Section 6(b) of the COTPA Act."
