Gangtok: Pema Choden Bhutia claimed the title of Miss Universe Sikkim 2026 during the grand finale held in Yangang on June 14. The competition featured Youdenla Bhutia as the first runner-up and Bindita Basnett as the second runner-up.
The event drew a wide audience of state officials and local dignitaries, including Minister Bhoj Raj Rai and Deputy Speaker Raj Kumari Thapa. Addressing the participants, Thapa praised the dedication shown by the contestants and encouraged young women to keep pursuing their goals. She stated, "She expressed hope that more young women from Yangang would participate in future editions of the competition and other similar platforms."
Beyond the top three winners, the pageant identified emerging talent in the region. Organizers and judges highlighted the performance of 17-year-old Donila Bhutia, a local resident whose stage presence marked her as a promising future model despite her inability to compete due to age requirements.
The pageant was designed to promote empowerment, leadership, and cultural pride among the women of Sikkim. By providing a stage for participants to showcase their skills, organizers aimed to inspire the youth to bring greater recognition to their state and the Yangang region.
