Kohima: The Nagaland Home Department has officially declared June 16, 2026, a paid holiday for registered voters in specific wards across the state. This measure ensures that electors can participate in the local polling process scheduled for that day.
The mandate applies to Ward No. 11 in Chümoukedima Town Council, Ward No. 8 in Wokha Town Council, and Ward No. 9 in Atoizu Town Council. The directive covers all State and Central Government employees, along with staff at banks and financial institutions who are registered to vote in these designated areas. This rule also applies to those living or working outside their home wards if they remain on the electoral rolls there.
Beyond government and financial offices, the order requires local businesses to shut their doors during voting hours. According to the official notification, the holiday is designed "to enable them to cast their votes." The Home Department also confirmed that if the State Election Commission mandates a re-poll, the day selected will be observed as a public holiday for those affected voters as well.
