Imphal: Opposition parties in Manipur have leveled sharp criticism against the BJP-led NDA government, describing the current administration as a puppet entity managed by leaders in New Delhi. Speaking to reporters in Imphal, Communist Party of India spokesperson Rajkumar Amusana claimed the state is effectively run by a shadow government led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Amusana argued that the central government has remained a mute spectator while violence continues to plague the state. He highlighted that despite recent hostage killings and systemic attacks, authorities have failed to apprehend a single perpetrator responsible for these crimes.

Concerns over the state’s deteriorating law and order are further evidenced by the limited movement of high-ranking officials. Amusana noted that Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has not visited the Kuki-Zo-dominated Churachandpur district since taking office in February. Similarly, Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen has been unable to visit Imphal, even with heavy security protection.

Former cabinet minister Okram Joy Singh echoed these concerns, suggesting that the central government’s handling of the crisis has essentially divided Manipur into distinct territories for the Meitei, Naga, and Kuki communities. Referring to the current political climate, Amusana stated, "The Yumnam Khemchand-led government is a puppet government controlled by a shadow government comprising central leaders."

Critics further alleged that the central leadership prioritizes the acquisition of land over the welfare of Manipur’s indigenous population. The remarks follow the recent killing of six abducted Naga individuals, a tragedy that has intensified calls for greater accountability in the region.
