Officials debunk viral landslide video at Tsiedukhru range

Kohima: National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited officials killed rumors of a major rockfall at the Tsiedukhru range yesterday. A viral video sparked panic, but it was not from this week. Debris did fall, but only in small amounts.

Manish Kumar, a Deputy General Manager at the Dimapur project unit, confirmed the minor event. He said, "Yesterday, small debris fell at two or three locations." Engineers confirmed the footage circulating on social media belongs to an older incident.

The agency asked Chümoukedima officials to shut down the left side of the road from Chathe Bridge. Traffic now moves along the right side to avoid hazards. Maintenance crews monitor the zone daily to clear rocks and prevent accidents.

Some blamed bad construction for the trouble. NHIDCL rejected these claims, citing the District Disaster Management Authority report that labeled past slides as natural disasters. Plans for long-term safety exist. The corporation wants to build bridges and tunnels along the 45-kilometer stretch from Chathe Bridge to the Jotsoma bypass.
